1930's African American Folk Art Bottle Sculpture

Recently sold for $ 180.20 on eBay.

Seller's description: Rare early 20th century Southern folk art figural sculpture, hand made from paper-mache and wooden branches applied and sculpted over an old green whiskey bottle.

This piece was most likely made by an African - American folk artist and dates to the 1920s - 1940s, judging from the type of bottle, materials, and aged patina.

I have seen a similar piece, also paper-mache on an old whiskey bottle and of the same sculptural form and age, and it originated (or at least was found) in Georgia, so that may be the origin of this piece as well.

This piece is unsigned and the bottle is unmarked on the visible parts.

This piece measures 13" tall with the head in place, and about 8" wide across the elbows.
